In May, The Training and Education Group brought together five specialists in the field of bladder, bowel and skin management that focused on providing case managers with essential knowledge on the effective management of conditions arising from spinal cord injuries.
BABICM Best Practice Poster Competition 2023 Winners Announced
On the 6th & 7th June 2023 BABICM presented their annual conference entitled ‘Steering Steady in a World of Complexity” at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry. This year, for the first time, there was an award of £500 to the best poster, and an opportunity to write an article or present their work next year at Conference.
Action for Brain Injury Week
Case managers are familiar with the challenges that come with working with people who have suffered an acquired brain injury and the impact it has on them and their families. Yet there continues to be a lack of awareness of brain injury outside the industry. MP Chris Bryant, who was knighted in the New Year’s Honours list, has been instrumental in bringing ABI into focus, and his work has pushed the government into creating a strategy for ABI. With the details of the strategy due to be published in June, it makes this year’s Action for Brain Injury Week even more important.
New Deputyship Standards
The 13th February 2023 saw the publication of the new OPG deputyship standards and accompanying guidance for lay, professional and public authority deputies. The new standards streamlined the July 2015 standards as well as creating new obligations that all Deputies ought to be aware of.
Knighthood For ABI Campaigner Chris Bryant
ABI campaigner Chris Bryant was knighted in King Charles III's first New Year’s Honours list. Sir Chris, who is the MP for Rhondda, has been at the forefront of efforts to introduce a strategy that will help simplify and widen access to increased support for brain injury survivors.

BABICM members take part in published research
BABICM members took part in a research study, organised by the BABICM Research Group in conjunction with Plymouth University and recently published in the Journal of Long Term Care 1. The study showed that a good outcome in brain injury case management is client-centred and determined either by the client or in conjunction with the client, and where appropriate, their family to achieve improved quality of life1.
