About the Organisation: The British Association of Brain injury and Complex Case Management (BABICM) is the leading membership organisation for professionals working in brain injury and complex case management.  BABICM provide a structure for the continued professional advancement of case management, promoting best practice to address and manage the needs of people with brain injury and people with other complex conditions.

Our aim is to support our members by sharing knowledge and promoting excellence in brain injury and complex case management for adults, children and young people.

BABICM is significant in the case management community providing standards of brain injury professional practice and competencies for case managers. We offer training and education opportunities for case managers and others working in the industry. We provide up to date news and updates relevant to the work of our members. We promote evidence-based practice, collaborate in research and provide information to influence policy and legal decision making relating to the consequences of life changing injuries which lead to complex needs requirements for case management.

BABICM Chair & Director

The role of BABICM Chair is a key role within BABICM Management.  The Chairperson must ensure that the BABICM Council functions properly, that there is full participation during meetings, that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out.

The role of BABICM Chair requires a time commitment, with work between meetings, external representation of the organisation, and work with staff. This role requires diplomacy and leadership skills of a high level.

Main duties of the BABICM Chair

The responsibilities of a Chairperson can be summarised under five areas:

1.To provide leadership.

The overarching role of the chairperson is to provide leadership, they must be an effective strategist and a good networker.

2.To ensure the Management Committee functions properly.

The Chairperson is responsible for making sure that each meeting is planned effectively, conducted according to the constitution and that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner, ensuring provision of ethical advice and guidance to Council and individual Case Managers.

The Chairperson must make the most of all his/her council members, building and leading the team. This also involves regularly reviewing the Council’s performance and identifying and managing the process for renewal of the Council through recruitment of new members.

3.To ensure the organisation is managed effectively.

The Chairperson must co-ordinate the Council to ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place for the effective management of the organisation.

4.To provide support and supervision to the BABICM senior team.

The Chairperson will be the direct line manager for the BABICM Operations and senior BABICM team (Directors).

5.To represent the organisation as its figurehead.

The Chairperson may be called upon to publicly represent BABICM and sometimes be its spokesperson at, for example, industry functions or meetings.

BABICM Chair goals

  1. To produce and develop a strategic business plan for the 3/5 years term of office.
  2. To review, develop and update the business plan
  3. To provide an address as required for publications.
