Setting up and managing care teams whilst navigating the statutory services arenas can provide case managers with a steep learning curve. In this four part series, we will be exploring setting up care packages, accessing direct payments and NHS Continuing Care funding and in the final session, considerations for those inevitable issues which may arise.

• To develop a better understanding of statutory funding, either via direct payments, NHS Continuing Healthcare or NHS Personal Health Budget.

Part 1 – Identifying client care needs and investigating statutory funding

Anita Pascoe, Clinical Lead Case Manager 

Clinical Lead and Case Manager at Westcountry Case Management, Pascoe will be speaking about the practicalities of setting up care for clients in the community. This will include how to identify a client’s care needs, deciding between agency and direct employment, sourcing emergency cover and how evidence of a client’s clinical presentation can be demonstrated.

Part 2 – NHS Continuing Healthcare

James Pantling-Skeet Chartered Legal Executive

With extensive experience in community care law, James Pantling-Skeet of Lester Aldridge will be exploring statutory provision through the NHS in terms of Continuing Healthcare and Personal Health Budgets. Arising issues such as restrictions in terms of top ups of PHBs and demonstrating a met need still being a need will be explored.

Part 3 – Direct Payments and Adult Social Care Funding

She will identify complex issues which may arise when seeking and maintaining such funding and share insight into how challenges can be made when required

Part 4 – Issues which may occur related to direct employment

In the final part of this series, Maria Meek, partner who specialises in Court of Protection and Compensation Protection Trusts for Royds Withy King, will help address some of the employment issues which may arise during the direct employment process and help to identify key roles of the various parties who may be involved.
