Life of Brian

Come and share in the ‘Life of Brian’, where we will follow Brian’s not-altogether-smooth progress as a brain injured child into and through adulthood, and consider the difficulties and issues his journey presents to those working with Brian and his family.

Guided by a scenario-based example in the form of the ‘Life of Brian’, we will cover many of the complex and challenging issues encountered during post-settlement. The event is ideal for case managers, deputies and social workers and follows on from the incredible, sell-out success of our ‘fantastic, thought-provoking and highly relevant’ Life of P event, run in 2017 and 2018.

The Life of Brian is designed to prompt discussion and will provide an opportunity to think through many of the more challenging conundrums and transitions that complex cases can encounter. Delegates will benefit from our exceptional speakers who have a wealth of experience across case management, legal fields, deputyships and other related fields.

Join us as we follow Brian and his family from the early years after his birth injury through to adulthood and later life and look at some of the tricky issues that particularly involve case managers and deputies.

The day will focus on many of the themes and challenges that are faced by professionals as they work balancing many factors to ensure Brian and others like him can achieve a lifestyle of their choosing, work toward and achieve their goals and develop independence whilst benefitting from optimal and individualised support.

Brian’s path has its highlights but is not always a smooth one, the day will consider and discuss aspects including;

  • Early years support to Brian and his family
  • Educational frameworks, Education Health and Care Plans
  • Selecting and purchasing a house
  • Settlement of litigation
  • Family breakdown and its impacts
  • Vocational options and support
  • Vulnerability and protecting Brian from abuse as a child, teen and adult
  • Brian’s relationships with his partner and his own children

The day will be especially valuable to case managers and deputies as speakers share their experiences of managing these challenges alongside the opportunity to discuss and network with other delegates. We hope that further areas of challenge will be identified to build upon for a follow up on Brian further along his life pathway.
