Welcome to the BABICM Council Update for July 2019

Training Events Group

The results from the Training Events group survey completed by BABICM members was presented to the group and advised that the feedback was to be used when planning future events.  Applications received for a new member of the Training Events group were currently being reviewed. All events for 2019 have now been booked and are advertised here. Dates for our annual New and Would Be and Beyond The Beginnings 2020 workshops have been released and advertised. Both events will be held in Birmingham in March and November 2020.

 

Professional Practice & Membership Group

A booklet for Headway has been produced by the group and this is currently under review by the Headway charity.

Gillian Walker has been appointed as the new Advanced Membership Assessor and will be receiving training in the coming months.  PPMG are to set dates for 2020 and these will be released shortly. A template for an Advanced Membership Assessment folder is to be produced by the group and be made available to members on the website. PPMG are to put together guidance notes on the registration requirements, following the report received from Andy Brown at the CQC. The original letter sent to the CQC is to be published on the website.  Angela Kerr is contact Andy Brown regarding treatment of disease, disorder or injury to clarify registration  in the role of Psychologist and provide a scenario. Further meetings are to be arranged with CIW to discuss registration in Wales.  Registration is Scotland is also to be investigated. The decision to change the BABICM name to the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management was approved by the membership and we are in the process of changing all records to reflect this.

 

Research Group

The Research Group have asked the membership for new topics for future research. It was agreed that the primary research project should be on the topic of ‘measures and outcomes of Case Management’.

 

Registered Case Manager Strategy Group

The three groups within the RCMSG which are made up of BABICM, CMSUK and VRA are working on development standards, educational pathway (using the framework of Sue Lucamith’s taxonomy work) and events,  they are also looking for members to join the group from the NHS or probation.  Contact janine.heritage@head-first.org for further details. The Chairship of this group will rotate between the three companies and will be due to be changed next to BABICM. One of the aims of the group is to claim the name of the Registered Case Manager as a profession.

Special Interest Groups

Both CQC and Advanced Membership Assessment groups are now live on the forum page as closed groups.  A new Specialist Interest Group is to be formed to discuss CQC registration.

BABICM Office (Administration Matters)

Survey results from the BABICM Annual Conference 2019 were extremely positive and provided some excellent feedback for when planning next years event. We will be looking to launch the event in  October/November 2019. The Strategic Planning meeting will be held at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on the 23rd & 24th September 2019. The facility to take payment by card has been implemented in the office and the designs for online booking are in the process of being finalised.

Other updates

We are excited that BABICM Chair Angela Kerr has also been asked to be part of the judging panel at the Personal Injury Awards in Manchester in November 2019.
